(4-H logo) 4-H Fall & Spring Indoor Gardening Project

Our Fall and Spring Plant Science program geared for elementary through high school, includes lesson plans, project books and materials needed for $12 per participant. Many academic standards are met in the areas of Science & Technology and Environment & Ecology. Training is provided for teachers.

For the Fall 2008 Indoor Gardening Project:

  • Please respond by October 3, 2008 with a definite number of youth enrolling.
  • Note leader training is Thursday October 30, 2008, 4 - 5:30 p.m. at the Garrett-Williamson 4-H Farm 395 Bishop Hollow Road, Newtown Square.
Note please that all fees and completed 4-H Member Group Enrollment form must be submitted on that day for materials to be released.
  • Remember to download and complete both the Indoor Gardening Fall Enrollment form and the 4-H Group Enrollment form.

4-H Indoor Gardening is a program designed for your students with amazing plant science lessons to expand their appreciation of our environment, designed to help meet Pennsylvania Academic Science Standards. This fall, students will have the opportunity to learn how to plant cuttings and seeds, plus much more. Suggested classes begin the week of November 3 and continue through the week of December 8.

  • 4-H provides plant materials and a complete outline of lessons, instructions, and supplemental activities for each project for teachers and students. All supplies are distributed at leader training on October 30, 2008. Payment and completed 4-H Member group enrollment form are also required at this time. NO materials will be released without both in hand. Be sure to bring helpers to load your soil and leave plenty of trunk space for your supplies!

  • The cost for 4-H Indoor Gardening is $12.00 per student, plus a $20 per classroom Educational Materials Fee* if the program is being conducted during the school day and not after school. Supplies for one teacher will be provided free of charge. Due to increased costs, if you desire additional teacher/helper supplies, they will be billed at the student rate. Please indicate your needs on the enrollment form.
Please make your check payable to "Delaware County Cooperative Extension."

  • If you need flyers to advertise your program . . . a customizable flyer to recruit your students for after school programs (in MS Word) is available for you to adapt as needed.
Click here to download it from our website:
    • You will be asked if you want to open it or save it.
    • Click save and put it where you save your other documents.
    • You can then open it, make your changes and save them.
    • Print as many as you need.

  • Please make every effort to attend the leader training or send an alternate to pick up materials. With close to 700 students enrolled countywide each session, we do not have the resources to make individual arrangements for delivery. We cannot guarantee plant health if materials are not picked up on time.

  • To register, please return the 4-H Indoor Gardening Enrollment form by October 3, 2008. Materials will be ordered on that day. No adjustments to your order may be made after that.

  • Please adhere to our deadline to insure sufficient time for ordering your materials. The 4-H Member Group Enrollment Form and enrollment fees are due on or before the training date of October 30, 2008. Failure to make payment on time will delay distribution of your materials.

*Penn State University has imposed a $20 educational fee on each 4-H project conducted in the classroom (not after school) to support curriculum development and publication costs. You may want to contact your parent teacher organization to help you fund this exciting educational program. Please note that if 70% of the youth in a school are participating in the free and reduced lunch program, then the school is exempt from payment of this classroom fee.

If you have any questions please call me at 610-690-7667 or e-mail me at cmn11@psu.edu. I look forward to working with you.
